Two Iranian poets of opposite sex have just been sentenced to 99 lashes for shaking hands. Other charges include kissing in public and writing poems critical of the system. They are going to face imprisonment for their poems. Now this is my turn to support them. Here is my a photo of mine kissing someone on his cheek. I want to make a statement telling the authorities that kissing is not a crime. Please let the world know that what is considered to be ordinary and normal elsewhere in the world–i.e., kissing and shaking hands between members of the opposite sex in public–are punishable by lashes in Iran. Mehdi Mousavi and Fatemeh Ekhtesari, who are famous in Iran for their postmodern poems, have been sentenced to 9 and 11 years in prison, respectively, and 99 lashes.
