“Sir Elton, it’s Russian President Vladimir Putin, I would like to request a meeting with you in the near future, would you be interested?”
This was a phone call that British musician Elton John did not see coming.
After a post that John made on Instagram last week, thanking Putin for calling him, two Russian pranksters admitted they were the ones who had tricked Elton into thinking Vladimir Putin had called to meet him.
Putin has responded to the phone call and has actually agreed to meet with John in the future, but this time for real.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov quoted Putin saying:
“I know that those phone pranksters fooled you. Please don’t be angry with them.”
Peskov continued to say:
“Putin also said that he understands how popular Elton John is, so if their schedules permit, he will be willing to meet him in the future and discuss any issues that he is concerned about.”
What’s even more interesting is that earlier this month John had made comments in regards to Russia’s gay “propaganda” law, as Putin was suggesting gay people prey on children.
Maybe the two should meet in a public area. Starbucks?
